Home Security FAQ

Good answers are rarely absolute. A home becomes more resistant when layers work together: physical delay, visibility, detection, and response.

01Does a long strike make a door impossible to open?

No. It increases resistance by moving load into more material and often into framing. The result depends on the frame, screws, alignment, and door.

02Should I replace the deadbolt?

Often the frame comes first. A properly installed Schlage B60N is a strong mainstream pick; Medeco or Mul-T-Lock makes more sense when cylinder, key-control, or targeted risk is higher.

03Does security film stop entry?

It holds broken glass together and can turn quick entry into a longer, louder effort. For maximum resistance, frame attachment matters as much as film thickness.

04Are double-cylinder deadbolts a good idea?

They can reduce risk near glass, but they create egress concerns. They should be evaluated against occupants, applicable code, and a clear exit plan.
